Carrizo walked into the barracks, not a thing was moving. He looked about, trying to see if anyone was awake. He had told them that training was today, and they should be up at 0500. But apparently he had been ignored, or his words had fallen on the deaf. He sighed, the turned on the lights, “EVERBODY UP! LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO!” Carrizo walked down in the middle of the two rows of bunks, shaking a few men, and slapping some others. The soldiers began rolling out of their beds, sleepy, many still rubbing their eyes. He walked back to the front of the barracks near the door. “Alright men, today is your first day of training, get dressed and meet outside on the parade ground.” Carrizo did a smart about face and marched crisply out of the room. The men inside stood around for a moment, and then, slowly, began moving.
Ten minutes later, Carrizo was standing with Hoi, waiting for the men. Carrizo’s breath was freezing as it came out of his mouth. He was glad he had winter gear; otherwise his ass would have been frozen a long time ago. The men slowly began filtering out onto the parade grounds. They came out in two’s and threes. Carrizo could see that there was a divide between the Raven and SVER men. It was quite obvious, seeing as how there were two different groups of men on either side of the frozen field. “Alright then, everyone, follow me.” Carrizo jogged off, and the men began following at a slow jog. Carrizo went out of the base and around its perimeter, then again, and again. He circled the base 20 times, only three men were still following him when he finished. “You three, get the rest back to the parade ground, now.” Carrizo waited patiently as the men began filtering back in. He pointed to the three men who had lasted, barely. “You three, what are your names?” The first one stepped forward, “Callahan sir!” the next man shouted, “Jacques sir!” and the final man said quietly, “Hanrahan, sir.” Carrizo nodded, “For the duration of the training you three are responsible for bringing all the men back into the base. Every man had better make it back in, or you three are responsible.” The three men nodded, “Yes sir!” Carrizo walked forward to the group of men, “Now, all of you, formation!” The men slowly worked themselves into something that resembled a formation. And still, Raven and SVER was separated. Carrizo nodded, “Hoi, you have the platoon.” Hoi walked forward with a clipboard in hand, “OK, I need everyone to come right over here,” he indicated a small folding table, “give me your name, old rank, and your specialty. One man at a time and make a single file line behind Hanrahan.” The men quickly got into the line, and Carrizo watched as they began working on the paperwork.
“You two come with me.” Carrizo began walking through the group of men who had already been registered, “And you, and you.” He took two men from SVER and two from Raven. “Here is what I need, as you can see everyone is very separated by PMC, but here, we are all one. I need everyone to understand that, how would you three suggest I do it?” One of the men said, “Tell them, flat out.” Another man scoffed, “He was never a bright one sir, I would advise forcing them to work together through the training.” Carrizo nodded, “You four, your now a Fire Team. Better get to know each other, because you’re working together from here on out.” The men looked at each other, one of them said,
“Were a what?”
